THE MOISTURE-RESISTANT CLAY

THE NOVEL, ECOLOGICAL AND ECONOMICAL, U N F I R E D , AIR-DRIED, MOISTURE-RESISTANT AND FIRE-RESISTANT, WATER ABSORBENT, HIGHLY INSULATING CLAY MATERIAL DEVELOPMENTS

No firing - no firing related energy expenditure, no firing related CO2 emissions.

For thousands of years, clay has been fired, as untreated, unfired clay does not resist moisture.
When untreated, unfired clay materials are exposed to water, the process of disintegration starts immediately.

For some considerable time, the Brick and Tile Industry International as well as the European Commission have been searching for a method to produce clay products without the need for firing to eliminate high firing costs and CO2 emission.
IDEAS AND PROJECTS FOR MANKIND INC.'s innovative, ecological and economical process will provide the global community with access to an entire range of clay products that are both unfired and air-dried.

This process is based on the use of regionally occurring clay, hydrophobing agents and renewable CO2-binding materials. The production is accomplished entirely without the use of chemical substances.
The clay products themselves can be exposed to extreme moisture and extreme weather conditions.

When soaked in water and subsequently frozen at -20°C, these compressed clay materials exhibit not only water but frost resistance as well as dimensional stability and unimpaired load capacity.
The polluting, cost, energy and CO2-intensive firing process of bricks and roof tiles - which takes place at a temperature of 910°C to 1200°C and lasts 6 to 36 hours- as well as the firing of pottery can be avoided with the aid of this unique process.

It is finally possible to apply these unique clay plasters and clay building materials in areas exposed to the elements without any possibility of disintegration or collapse.
In addition, this ecological and economical process can now be expanded to produce roof, floor and pond sealants as well as wind, water, fire and noise protections.

The behaviour of both our air-dried water-resistant and standard non water-resistant clay samples when exposed to water can be found on our website under > T H E   V I D E O S .

Images of our compressed, air-dried, moisture-resistant clay blocks exposed to and frozen in water can be found under  > T H E  I M A G E S - THE CLAY MATERIAL.

You can find in depth information pertaining to THE MOISTURE-RESISTANT CLAY on IDEAS AND PROJECTS FOR MANKIND INC.'S affiliated website www.luxxultruegreen.com.

THE BUILDING MATERIAL

Based on our unique process, we at IDEAS AND PROJECTS FOR MANKIND INC. developed a variety of innovative, u n f i r e d clay building materials with the following characteristics:

  • ECOLOGICAL
  • ECONOMICAL
  • AIR-DRIED
  • MOISTURE-RESISTANT
  • WATER ABSORBENT
  • BREATHABLE
  • HIGHLY INSULATING
  • FIRE-RESISTANT
  • RECYCLABLE

As ordinary, unfired, air-dried clay does not possess moisture-resistant properties, up until now, the use of clay in building projects was limited due to its non-moisture resistant nature. For the first time in history, clay products can be exposed to the elements without being damaged.

We at IDEAS AND PROJECTS FOR MANKIND INC. incorporate regional, renewable, CO2-storing fillers to enhance our innovative, moisture resistant clay material. The composition of the fillers may vary.
By incorporating locally grown plant based fillers such as hemp, jute, reed, bamboo, sawdust, wood and cork bark as well as animal based fillers such as wool [ see > T H E   I M A G E S  -  T H E  FILLERS ], we reduce the weight of our clay building materials.
At the same time these fillers reduce crack formations and increase the insulating and load bearing capacity.
We at IDEAS AND PROJECTS FOR MANKIND INC. are consciously using clay only in minimally required vital amounts and - at the same time - to the greatest possible extent renewable, CO2- storing, regional materials as fillers.

As a result of our clay’s increased insulating properties, heating and cooling costs are substantially reduced.
Our ecological and economical clay building materials are easily processed, completely recyclable or problem-free disposable in landfills.
They provide DIYers, professionals, communities, entrepreneurs, aid and environmental organizations with a quick, economical, healthy, environmentally friendly, future-oriented building and design alternative.

In countries where people traditionally build or have built their buildings with clay, buildings can now be constructed, renovated, restored and adapted that these do not suffer damage even by heavy precipitation events.

Our ecological and economical clay building materials allow architects to create innovative building envelopes - even bionic architectural building envelope designs.

This without the use of chemical substances, cement and lime as their production process has an enormous negative environmental impact. Most importantly, the addition of sand, which is already in very limited supply in many areas of the world, has been completely eliminated.

The scope of application of these clay building materials is far-reaching due to its moisture and fire resistance, dimensional stability, increased load bearing capacity, high insulating properties as well as the possible preparation and application by hand or machine.

The clay building materials we offer are ranging from special clay mortars, highly insulating coarse or fine clay plasters as well as highly insulating lightweight clay bricks, clay blocks, clay panels, clay elements, and loose, ultra-lightweight fill and drainage materials and more. Clay building materials also improve the indoor climate. They regulate the humidity levels in rooms and they absorb pollutants and odours from the air.

Furthermore they possess the ability to protect wood from fire and pests and they are consistantly electrostatically neutral.

You can find in depth information pertaining to the special moisture-resistant clay mortars and highly insulating moisture-resistant clay plasters on the affiliated website www.luxxultruegreen.com.

THE MOULD MATERIAL

As ordinary air-dried clay does not possess moisture-resistant properties, it has been fired since the Stone Age in order to create its permanent shape.
Now for the first time potters and artists can manually or mechanically create u n f i r e d, air-dried, moisture-resistant, water absorbent, structurally stable pottery and clay sculptures in a truly environmentally friendly and CO2 emission free process.

Not only are firing expenses and the firing related emissions entirely eliminated but also the risk of damage to the work pieces during the firing process can be avoided.

By incorporating a variation of regional, naturally occurring, renewable, CO2-storing fillers we reduce the weight and the chance of crack formations of our clay pieces.

Depending on both the kind and quantity of the renewable filling material being added, a variety of final surface finishes can be achieved.
Our unique forming materials can be used manually or mechanically to create unfired, air-dried, moisture-resistant clay pieces such as pottery and sculptures. They can also be used to create shelters for dogs, cats, birds, bees and other animals or adventure playgrounds for children just to mention a few.

Regarding the specific preparation and application guidelines, IDEAS AND PROJECTS FOR MANKIND INC. offers consultations in the form of on-site or video consultations, as well as relevant brochures.

THE ENTERPRISE

It is the endeavour of the socio-ecological and socio-economical Canadian enterprise IDEAS AND PROJECTS FOR MANKIND INC. to provide environmentally relevant know-how.

Our current focus is to spread both knowledge and experience for the creation and application of our innovative, ecological and economical clay materials.

Our innovative products are made from the smallest possible quantity of clay, yet the greatest possible quantity of regionally occurring, renewable plant and animal materials.

The production is carried out without the use of chemical substances, cement, lime, sand or other sediments.

Due to the elimination of the firing-process no related energy consumption and no related CO2 emission results. This has a correspondingly positive impact on the environment.

The area of application of these novel material developments does not just comprise the sectors new buildings, refurbishments, adaptations as well as thermal rehabilitations and the protection of historical monuments.

The novel, problem-free recyclable clay material developments have - among others - the potential to enable the construct of future-oriented, ecological and economical buildings.

These materials are also integrated into our novel future-oriented building concept BUILDING WITH NATURE [ THE NEW EASE OF BUILDING ].
